WTF NEWS: Mom Chops off baby’s hair because… Why?
The newest viral video depicts a little girl upset as her mother angrily cuts her freshly braided hair. Beads and braids litter the sidewalk as we watch the crying toddler grieve amongst the commotion. What is going on and why is this baby left to be humiliated? When I first came across this video, I didn’t really understand what I was seeing.
As women, especially black women, we are taught early that our hair is our crown of glory. How do you do this to your baby? What kind of behavior warrants this action? What did you achieve?

Write this article and act as if my co-parenting situation is lovely… IT AIN’T, PERIOD. As a single mother, I am still learning, healing, and processing. There is no guidebook to a successful co-parenting situation. Rifts happen, words are exchanged at times, disagreements naturally happen. However, this right here is alarming. Watching this video made me reflect on my own co-parentingship… At the end of the day, we as parents, as people, as decent human beings have to DO BETTER. Our children are watching, and in this case, this baby was a casualty to a mother who is upset because… Why?
I will NOT make excuses for this mother but… How’s your mental health, sis? What exactly triggered you? You cannot do this to your baby. This is NOT okay and we as patrons of social media cannot just scroll past this video.
What I will do is:
Be transparent in saying that as a single mother myself who struggles to co-parent, this is too far… I cannot see a man that I share a child with making me so angry that I do something like this to my baby in retaliation. Something deeper is going on. Whatever it is, it has to be addressed. This was an act of rage and zero self control. I can understand if the father had hurtful intentions. However, this was a nice gesture.Let me also point out that this hairstyle was age appropriate.
He picked his children up early from daycare. He stated in the video that he got his two son’s hair cut and got his daughter’s hair braided. The beautiful braiding job took two hours to complete. Everyone knows that that is a lot of time for a toddler to sit still in one place. However, like all women, I know that baby girl felt a sense of confidence when she saw the final beautiful product: Beautiful braids adorned with beads.
I can’t help but wonder how the baby is feeling. What did she learn? I am mortified for this little girl. This is child abuse. This is the worst kind at that. To go from waiting for two hours to get your hair braided, to loving your new do, to having your mother take scissors to your new masterpiece all because mom and dad can’t get it together is beyond sad… That should have never happened.
SN: Maybe this is me being petty but why did this lady have the nerve to say that she just got her daughter’s hair to finally grow. Lady, you need you head TAGGED.
