Fukk your morals, just “slut-shame” your damn self!

slut shame

I am convinced that my mind has got to be the size of a sweet pea. I just don’t understand… As a matter of fact… Whhhhhhhhhyyyyyy? I am all for activism and creativity, but as an artist myself, I have truly failed to comprehend both Amber Rose and Blac Chyna’s wardrobe choice to MTV’s 2015 VMA’s. REALLY!!! What kind of statement are you making? This is as bad as Nicki Minaj Slapping the words, “Lookin’ ass nigga” on the picture of Malcolm X as her album artwork (Lets NOT forget about that one) Hell, I don’t even know what to call this one. I was speechless for a good five minutes after I saw this. What is the point of Amber Rose and Black Chyna slut shamming themselves by stamping every offensive word for a female all over their clothing?  Words like, “Bitch”, “hoe”, “slut”, “gold digger”, and “stripper” tattered their nude colored outfits. What made it even worse was that they stood there and allowed their pictures to be taken and they seemingly looked proud to shroud their bodies in such filthy and dehumanizing words.

The Urban dictionary defines “Slut Shaming” as:

An unfortunate phenomenon in which people degrade or mock a woman because she enjoys having sex, has sex a lot, or may even just be rumored to participate in sexual activity.

It is bad enough that America is seemingly ushering in a rape culture. I say this after the Bill Cosby fiasco. Not Bill Cosby himself. I am talking specifically about all of the memes and jokes that accompanied that whole situation. We watched the country take something as serious as rape and make it into a laughing matter. America made a joke out of rape. Then, we turn around and watch these two beautiful women devalue themselves like it is nothing. I am sorry but I fail to see how this is honorable, empowering or respectful. After digging around on the internet, I have managed to find an article defending the wardrobe as publicity for Amber Roses new “Slut Walk” campaign.  This campaign is supposed to  take a stand against: sexual violence, victim blaming, derogatory labels, and gender inequality. I guess there is nothing more “empowering” than slut shamming your damn self with you outfit.

I just can’t help but shake my head and think, “But you made it out of the strip club. Why do you seem to be so determined to go back.” I wonder how they will explain this one to their son’s once they are old enough to see the photos from that night.

Would it have been too much for them to praise themselves in a positive light?  Let’s be real, neither  of them are angels and we all know that.  Hell none of us are.  However, they are young and they are having fun and they really don’t care. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but where is the self-respect? At least care about that. You can’t possibly tell me that you respect yourself as a woman and you chose to cheapen your value by rocking this garbage and then have the nerve to say its for a good cause… As a woman I just don’t understand why. As a woman, I am not empowered by seeing this. I am disgusted. Why couldn’t you put something that was empowering and uplifting to women like: “Goddess”, “CEO”, “lotus” or “BOSS”? You know, something that is worthy of being proud of showing all over your body? I’m not bashing creativity, I’m bashing the purpose . Why slut shame yourself  when you have the power to be so much more now?
