An Aaliyah/Drake Collab????
What is this?? is 2012 the year of waking the dead, for real? First it was hologram-mania. Now, this.
Damn, what’s next??? How far is too far?
I read one report earlier this week saying that drake may possibly be dropping an Aaliyah album by year’s end… I don’t know about this one. It’s obvious that he is a huge fan of transitioned singer, so am I… But DAMN HOMIE. How are you going to drop a new Aaliyah project like that. What ever happened to letting legends rest in peace? I read one report stating that the album is supposed to be what Aaliyah would sound like now. What does that mean exactly? Are they going to do an over-autotuned effect on her beautiful voice? The only person that knows what Aaliyah would sound like now is AALIYAH. No artist living today, no matter how talented they are, can “create” that.
Furthermore, Missy Elliot and Timberland wouldn’t even be involved in the project? Say what? Everybody seen how thick Aalyiah was with them before she passed. They were this crazy, musical, bionic force. They made great music. How in the world would you even think to do a project like this and not even consider those two? HELLO?????? What’s really going on?
“Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate,” said Mona Scott-Young, Elliott’s manager. “We’ve seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated.”

I loved Aaliyah just as much. I still listen to her music on the train nearly everyday on my way to work. Her voice is timeless. She is easily entered into the hall of fame of greats who have passed on. She hasn’t earned this title because she died so tragically. She earned this place because of her unique style and creativity. It was a perfect blend of originality and amazing talent. I still have yet to hear a singer whose voice is both soft and raspy at the same time. I try to keep an open mind with things but this one is just a little too much for me. There’s a difference between doing a tribute and trying to wake the dead… Especially when the loved one of the deceased are left in limbo. WTH DRIZZY?
Right!, that a little creepy. There are ways to do a dedication album and we have seem them from artist was passed on, but it was from songs that didn’t make it to marketing. This generated stuff is too much.
